Paradoxical adipose hyperplasia

What is it?
Paradoxical Adipose Hyperplasia (PAH), a rare side effect of cryolipolysis (CoolSculpting), occurs when treated fat cells enlarge and harden, forming a visible bulge instead of reducing fat. Characterized by a firm, expanded area matching the applicator’s shape, it’s often likened to a “stick of butter.” PAH images reveal increased tissue volume and a distinct alteration in the treated area’s contour.

Before and Afters

Cryolipolysis is the non-invasive reduction of fat with localized cutaneous cooling. Since initial introduction, over 650,000 cryolipolysis treatment cycles have been performed worldwide. We present a previously unreported, rare side effect following cryolipolysis, paradoxical adipose hyperplasia. full article
